Don’t be cheap on your purchase if you want to have great results with a slow cooker and the recipes you plan to prepare. On the other side, you don’t have to own a mega de luxe model. Since I don’t want you to buy a Philippe Richard pressure cooker or a Mirro cooker, you are best with doing your own research for this purpose. I know you will be surprised when I tell you that you won’t have to spend more then 40 bucks.
If you decide on any of these brand names- brand names like Rival, Hamilton Beach, Kitchen-Aid, Cuisinart or Proctor Silex - you won’t go wrong. We [...]

Using Pressure Cookers

The invention of pressure cookers happened because of a need to speed up the cooking of foods before the invention of the microwave. The way a pressure cooker works is based on the fact that higher pressure areas have a higher boiling point. Higher heats are reached more quickly due to the high amounts of pressure. In the beginning, pressure cooking was pretty dangerous, but there are enough safety features now to make it safe. A pressure cooker is really a great tool to have among your kitchen cookware.
There are lots of things that can be cooked in a pressure cooker and there are many a cooking book devoted [...]

How Knowing about Cooking Oil will Help You Make the Perfect Omelette

When I was a teenager, my friends would be amazed at my ability to produce the perfect omelette to order. And I always told them the secret was in the cooking oil.
They would go home and try it out for themselves. Their way was to pour a good portion of their mother’s most expensive cooking oil into a frying pan, crack a couple of eggs into a bowl which they’d briefly whisk before tipping the lot onto the luke warm oil in the pan. What ensued might be an interestingly textured scrambled egg ensemble. But not an omelette by any stretch of the imagination.
There are many lessons to be learned from [...]

Coming Up With Your Own Cheap Meal Ideas is Easy!

You might immediately hesitate to think that inventing or coming up with your own Low Cost Cooking meal ideas is relatively easy, but in a way it actually can be.  Very often people have a hard time making meals inexpensively because they let themselves get overwhelmed, thinking that they need to watch every penny that every ingredient cost or that they’re never allowed meat, and so on.  Or they’re afraid to adjust the recipes they already have if they’re just not familiar with the kitchen so they need explicit instructions when it comes to cheap meal ideas.  But really it just takes a small amount of creative thinking to Budget [...]

Understanding Soda Water

Soda water is carbonated water, sometimes referred to as sparkling water, and is plain water with carbon dioxide gas added. It is the predominant ingredient of most “soft drinks.”. The process of carbonation results in carbonic acid, which is more familiar to us as soda pop.
If one takes a seltzer bottle filled with water and then “charges” it with carbon dioxide, the result is club soda — or, soda water. Club soda is often the same as plain carbonated water; sometimes, however, there may possibly be a small amount of table salts and/or sodium trace minerals. These additives could possibly make the taste of home made soda water a [...]

Soda Club (aka Sodastream) in Conflict With Competitors

In 2006, Sodastream (Soda Club) tried to stop a competing enterprise from refilling “their” bottles of carbon dioxide (CO2), by claiming that the bottles were their property and did not belong to the customer (per contracts that all customers had to agree to).
This failed in Germany, and now could very well do the same in other countries.
More competition should broaden and improve this market niche; it would be good for the environment (bottles should be refilled in the store, an operation that takes a mere 20 seconds); and good for consumers (price could easily be cut in half). More info about refilling - and home refilling - of carbon dioxide [...]
