Choosing Coasters For the Home

David Artsmith  -  Coasters are found in almost every home and in almost every bar. They protect your posessions and surfaces from scratches, heat, and liquid messes. They are the small protective materials that come between the liquid container and your furniture.

They come in various shapes though most are circular. You can also have beer coasters made from various materials such as plastic, glass, wood, cloth or stone. For extra effects, some coasters come with logos, slogans or customized text. It is common to see coasters with the logo of famous beer makers such Budweiser or soft drink companies such as Pepsi.

Beverage coasters have a dual function. They serve as protective pieces of material, but they can also add to the decor of the room. The second function is mostly ignored by homeowners or bar proprietors but it is very important.

Though coasters serve the general purpose of protecting furniture surfaces from liquids, they do so differently. You should therefore buy your coasters with care. Each type has a different size, color or design. Some designs will blend with your décor whilst others will degrade it.

You should therefore buy according to your current furnishings. You can also buy according to your environmental orientation. If you are an eco oriented person, you can buy paper coasters that are usually disposable and will not damage the environment upon discarding. Of course this does require the cutting down of trees, and so is not without some environmental impact

Some drink coasters are also easier to clean than others. Cloth coasters are difficult to clean whilst the plastic versions are quite easy. Unfortunately plastic coasters can stain over time, degrading slowly when abused by sauces, or staining juices.

Whichever type you buy, coasters will protect your furniture from damage and make them last longer. It will stand between your posessions and the ravages of moisture, scratches, and wear and tear.
